What to do during an after-hours emergency
If your pet needs immediate care when Boca Veterinary Clinic is closed, seek an open emergency veterinary hospital immediately. Confirm that the facility is open and can receive your pet. Do not wait until our next opening or rely on an appointment form for an emergency response.
Extended hours and 24-hour operation mean different things. Our evening and weekend hours provide additional access to veterinary care, but they do not mean that our clinic receives emergency patients overnight.
When should you seek urgent veterinary attention?
Breathing difficulty, collapse, uncontrolled bleeding, major trauma, suspected poisoning, seizures, or an inability to urinate require prompt veterinary attention. This is not a complete list. Contact a veterinarian when you are concerned about a sudden or severe change in your pet’s condition.
For suspected toxin exposure, contact a veterinarian or ASPCA Poison Control at 888-426-4435. The poison-control service operates 24 hours a day, and a consultation fee may apply. Do not give medication or induce vomiting unless a veterinarian or poison-control professional tells you to do so.
Calling ahead helps us prepare
Tell our team your pet’s species, age, symptoms and when they began. Mention any injury, possible toxin exposure, current medications and important medical history. Let us know whether your pet is conscious, breathing normally and able to walk. The team can discuss arrival and safe transport based on the information you provide.
Bring available medical records and medication information if you can do so without delaying urgent care. Use a secure carrier or leash when safe. Bring packaging from a suspected toxin if available. Our emergency veterinary service includes evaluation and stabilization, with diagnostics and treatment based on your pet’s condition. Learn about digital X-rays, ultrasound, laboratory testing, and veterinary surgery. The veterinarian determines which services are appropriate after evaluation.
